Videos are a great way to supplement the learning process. They can be used to introduce or close lessons, and even utilized in the assessment portion of lessons. Having the unique quality of keeping students attention is most certainly an asset because it not only breaks up the 'normal' routine, but it allows better retention of information and lesson content. Understanding subject matter can clearly be made much easier with the use of video presentations because it brings the students 'closer' to the subject, rather than leaving them to their own imaginations or assumptions. While they do not hypnotize, they can indeed capture a part of the mind that's being targeted and ultimately leave a more lasting impression of the lesson that can be more easily recalled later.
Videos can not only be used to aid in the instructional process, but also to inspire and engage the
untouched intellect of students and compell them towards ideas, questions, perspectives, and even solutions that my not have otherwise been awakend if not for the feeling of being close to the subject at hand. Verbal teaching most certainly has it's place, but the addition of videos can add strength and definition to the overall purpose.
